The perception of the insecurity in the time of global communication. A device developed by weaving together a mass of suggestions, stories, near or far experiences which arrive at us from the media and the web. It is a path of knowledge which focuses the attention on a peripheral quarter of Milan, characterized by a population of new and old immigrants, built upon the direct experiences of the inhabitants. On the basis of the research there is the influence of the media and the global issues on daily behaviours and local matters.

Rooms in place of is a public art project inspired by the participative processes and by the creation of debate platforms. It focuses the attention on the perception of the insecurity and on the construction of its scenarios beginning with two ambits of reflection: the impact of global problems on the local ones and the analysis of media language. The aim is to activate a special type of cultural apparatus, able to offer more levels of lectures on problem related issues thus dwelling upon the difference which often exists between the reality and its representation. Eventually inducing people to a different and less passive perception of pictures and news. Milan and its metropolitan area are the emerging ground for a variety of suggestions and critical states that are inspired by problems that reflect more general and global issues. Special attention is dedicated to the suburbs by actions such as workshops which are carried out in a new constructed quarter on the territory of Senago, a significant microcosm which represents a larger widespread reality of the hinterland of Milan. The quarter, characterized by a high rate of first and second generation immigrants among its inhabitants , has been chosen in order to house laboratories with the purpose to analyze the phenomenon of living-together marked by the integration between social groups of different cultures. The project develops around two principal lines: the process, as a direct action on the territory and the representation, that is to say the transposition from the public to the private space of the exhibition. The artwork will be the result and the synthesis of various processes that mobilitate different realities: the social theatre, a perfect tool for a better comprehension of the territory and its dynamics. Workshops about the topics of cohabitation, the perception of insecurity and integration are done in collaboration with the Teatro Periferico. Moreover, analysis of web and media language is done in collaboration with Qflim. A video composed of clips and fragments picked from web and media will be produced, a frenetic track that describes the sceneries and imaginaries of insecurity and the capacity of auto-propagation of violence. The story-collection, the produced interviews and the materials will be used for the writing of a micro-dramaturgy which is going to be performed as live act within the days of the event at the Triennale. The audience will find itself in front of an installation of a theatre set where the performance will be carried out and once the actors left the stage a television placed on the floor will repeat the images of the piéce. A simple kept stage: a horseshoe platform, a video projection on the wall, a bookrack as well as microphones and lights.

The project, in the form of a play, was presented at inCONTEMPORANEA4, curated by Gaby Scardi, at the Palazzo della Triennale in Milan, in 2009.
